As we navigate this uncharted course in remote work and social distancing, we also continue to grow Stonewall’s community of fund partners. Together, our fund partners help us to expand our work and fund nonprofits who now, perhaps more than ever, need our philanthropy. At times we grow with some sadness, at times with celebration. Stonewall recently welcomed two funds into its family: The James D. Reed Legacy Fund and the Dawson NY Team @ Compass Fund.

Steve Dawson and Matthew Ryan, both former Board members at Stonewall, came together to open the Dawson NY Team @ Compass Fund with proceeds from recent real estate closings. We are happy to welcome their team as Stonewall Fund Partners and look forward to working in partnership with them to support the LGBTQ community.

The James D. Reed Legacy Fund will honor the life of Jim Reed

On April 15th, our LGBTQ community lost a treasured member, Jim Reed, to the COVID-19 pandemic. To honor Mr. Reed, a close friend opened a GoFundMe page with a moving tribute to his life. As the fund’s founder, Joseph Amodeo put it, “Jim was a friend to so many people. He was always ready to help and was generous with both his time and resources. The James D. Reed Legacy Fund with the Stonewall Community Foundation will allow us honor his memory while ensuring that Jim's legacy lives on through grants that make a difference in the lives of LGBTQIA youth and elders throughout New York City."

Harnessing the spirit of community, Jim’s friends pooled their resources, and raised enough to open a fund. We are honored to partner with Jim’s loved ones to continue his legacy, and celebrate his life through philanthropy.
