Growing & Glowing

Board president Rachel Korberg (right) poses for a photo with Stonewall’s Executive Director, Jarrett Lucas, at the 2022 Vision Awards.

It’s no secret that Stonewall’s team is made up of some truly incredible individuals. Our Board of Directors is teeming with agents of change who use their unique skillsets to move the needle on social justice, even outside of the work they do for Stonewall. Read on to learn how Board members Rachel Korberg and Cecilia Gentili have been making waves recently:

Rachel Korberg, Presidential Leadership Scholar

In addition to serving as the president of Stonewall’s Board of Directors, Rachel Korberg (she/her) leads the innovative and game-changing efforts of the Workers & Families Fund, a coalition of more than twenty diverse philanthropies working together to build a more equitable U.S. economy that uplifts all. Earlier this year, after a rigorous application and review process, Rachel was selected to be part of the eighth annual Presidential Leadership Scholars program. Each year, this initiative selects bold change makers to partake in a months-long leadership seminar where they will learn from former US presidents, key former administration officials, business and civic leaders, and leading academics. They will study and put into practice varying leadership principles and exchange ideas to help maximize their impact in the communities they serve.

Cecilia Gentili, Stonewall Book Award Winner

Cecilia Gentili and the cover of her Stonewall Book Award-winning memoir, Faltas: Letters to Everyone in My Hometown Who Isn't My Rapist.

Cecilia Gentili (she/her) is a force to be reckoned with. She is a legendary activist, advocate, and performer whose work on issues like trans health care, HIV/AIDS policy, and decriminalization of sex work has made her a pillar of New York’s queer community. Now, this multi-hyphenate can add “author” to her resume. Cecilia’s debut book, Faltas: Letters to Everyone in My Hometown Who Isn't My Rapist, was recently released to rave reviews from critics and readers alike. Faltas is a moving memoir about transgender childhood, sexual trauma, motherhood, and a young queer life in 1970s Argentina. You can find out more about the book here. Definitely worth a read, and don’t just take our word for it - Faltas was recently honored by the American Library Association, garnering the 2023 Stonewall Book Award for Non-Fiction! A much-deserved win for an incredible, heartbreaking, hilarious, and monumental biographical work.
