Scholarship, style, and social justice
Since 2022, we’ve partnered with Aritzia, a fashion retailer with an innovative global platform, to offer the Aritzia Scholarship at Stonewall. This scholarship supports LGBTQ students working in fashion design, retail management, mental health, or social justice. Now entering its third year, the scholarship has made an immense difference in the lives of eight changemakers across the country. We’re proud to share the stories of the most recent Aritzia scholars.
J. Lee, a graduate student studying counseling psychology with a focus on transgender mental health: “The Aritzia scholarship was a profound affirmation of my place within the LGBTQ+ community in this country. I feel deeply encouraged to continue my journey in embracing who I am and to do the work to make this possible for others as well.”
Indira Rahman, a law student studying the criminalization of LGBTQ people globally: “This scholarship will allow me to attend national conferences where the most current conversations on LGBTQ+ human rights take place. As a queer, non-binary asylum seeker who has lived on the margins of the US immigration system for almost a decade, I hope to one day pay it forward as an attorney and a scholar-activist. Thank you for this incredible support!”
Blair Richardson, an MBA student studying fashion design and merchandising: “Moving from the south all the way to California to follow my passion for beauty, art, and creativity almost seems impossible for someone who looks like and grew up in the same circumstances as me; however, I will never allow my circumstances to dictate my future, and I hope others will not either.”
Jakob Jochum-Fuchs, an undergraduate student studying clinical psychology: “I am studying to become a therapist for trans youth. My community raised me, and now that I am a trans adult, this scholarship will pave the way for me to give back when our youth need it most. Thank you endlessly.”
The 2024 Aritzia Scholarship application will be available this Spring. Stay tuned!
