Strengthening Our Community in Crisis
Note: If your organization is in need of support due to the COVID-19 pandemic, please reach out to us at grants@stonewallfoundation.org.
The LGBTQ+ Community is legendary for stepping up for each other in moments of great crisis, and Stonewall Community Foundation was founded with this very mission in our organizational DNA. As ever, we are here for our community now, and helping to meet the challenges of this crisis through our Emergency Response Fund.
As the COVID-19 pandemic ramped up in New York City, we surveyed our grantee partners to learn about the challenges they are experiencing now and those they anticipate in the near future. Just this week alone, we’ve responded to that feedback and made over $20K in grants to address present community needs. Those range from capacity grants for administrative telework and specialized sanitation, to program expansion grants for virtual services at LGBTQ senior centers and for mobile meals for the homeless. We have also provided a handful of unrestricted grants for hard-hit groups to boost cash flow, and we are releasing restrictions on program-specific grants to give nonprofits more financial flexibility. We are prioritizing support for organizations serving the most physically and economically vulnerable, e.g., people who are homeless or incarcerated, elders, street-involved youth, people who are poz, black and Latinx people who have the lowest access to remote work options, and undocumented immigrants. Supported nonprofits include, but are not limited to: Callen-Lorde, SAGE, New Alternatives for Homeless LGBT Youth, Trinity Place Shelter, GRIOT Circle, Sylvia Rivera Law Project, and God’s Love We Deliver.
In the weeks and months to come, we will continue using our Emergency Response Fund to meet the immediate and long-term needs presented by this crisis. If you are able, please consider making a gift. Now is the time to step up once again as a community, for our community.
