Double the Difference: a $100K Matching Challenge

Often these days — and literally for some — the world seems to be on fire. Climate change is causing record flooding on one coast, and devastating wildfires on the other; anti-trans bills have been offered more than 120 times this year alone; reproductive rights in Texas are being stripped away faster than we can say “under his eye;” the Afghan refugee crisis will go on for years; and the list goes on.

To meet the needs of these emerging crises, our Board of Directors have stepped up to match every gift dollar-for-dollar — up to $100,000 — for the next month. 100% of these dollars will go directly to our grantee partners who are busy securing our rights and changing the world. That’s a potential $200,000 in direct impact in a single month! Gifts to this matching challenge can come from new contributions, gifts of stock, or from your donor-advised or designated fund. In times like these, Stonewall has always been able to rely on our Fund Partners and significant donors to rise to the challenge, and this fall is no different.

In uplifting news, we are just three-quarters of the way through 2021, and Stonewall has already made over $1,000,000 in grants. We are well on our way to yet another record-breaking year, and you, our fund partners, are a major part of that work.

While we work on a programmatic report for our supporters, we thought you might like to see just how far Stonewall’s geographic reach extends.

While we work on a programmatic report for our supporters, we thought you might like to see just how far Stonewall’s geographic reach extends.

You are rising to the challenges of our times with major grants to organizations like the ACLU, Lambda Legal, and the National Center for Lesbian Rights. Front line programs, like those at God’s Love We Deliver, the National Queer Asian American and Pacific Islander Alliance, and Chicago’s Center on Halsted, have welcomed your grants. You are supporting artists with grants to the National Queer Theater, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami, and the Fire Island Pines Art Project. You haven’t forgotten amfAR, or the Treatment Action Group, or GMHC. Your alma maters are covered, as are the next generation of students. We couldn’t be more excited at the breadth and depth of the grants you advise, or of the way we help empower our community’s organizations with (as often as we can), unrestricted operating support.

These are the kinds of organizations we can continue to support with this fall’s $100,000 matching challenge.

As always, we are grateful to have the opportunity to suggest organizations, and we are especially grateful to learn about new grantee partners through your suggestions to us. This is how we change the world: sharing, learning, and growing together.

Thank you for choosing us to be your trusted partner as we all work to change the world, put out fires, and bring joy, whimsy, and creation into our communities.
