Shapeshifters: The Musical

Fund partners David and Christopher Murray recently introduced us to Truth Bachman, a theatre composer they’ve been following for some years. Truth is working on a new musical called “Shapeshifters” and is looking for some support to get it off the ground. We’ll let Truth describe it:

SHAPESHIFTERS is a music-theatre multiverse dedicated to LGBTQ+ superheroes. Using the lens of superhero science fiction, SHAPESHIFTERS encourages young queer and trans participants to consider what “others” them as their super power.

In the story of SHAPESHIFTERS, nonbinary fourteen-year-old, Mel, unearths a universe called Queer Time wherein queer and trans superheroes, The Shapeshifters, save young teens from untimely death. Together, The Shapeshifters must harness and protect their superpowers from an apocalyptic future. A queer superhero story unlike anything seen to date, SHAPESHIFTERS provides a musical and narrative framework to contain the multitudes of LGBTQ stories. Equal parts entertainment, education, and empowerment, SHAPESHIFTERS assembles community over digital and theatrical mediums.
